BBC Media Village, White City, London, UK
Masterplanning
The Media Village project, housing over 6,000 staff, has
defined West London as the prime centre for the BBC. Public
streets within the development, provide essential connections
and sustainability with the surrounding community. We provided a
new vibrancy to the previously neglected White City environs by
establishing an urban streetscape. Numerous shops were opened
including: a Tesco supermarket, coffee wine and juice bars,
beauty salons and a post-office.
Paul Cayford devised the innovative competition selection
process for appointing Allies & Morrison architects. The BBC subsequently formed a property partnership with
developer, Land Securities Trillium, which eventually became the
overall client for the development. Within this context Paul
Cayford remained an integral part of the design team as ‘Design
Manager’ or client representative for overall design
coordination.
